About the course
The APL course is designed specifically for candidates who have associated industry experience such as Plumbing and Heating, but do not hold any formal qualifications. By achieving the APL Certificate, candidates will be able to progress onto the ACS assessment in order to obtain the Gas Safe registration.
The course consists of in-depth theory and various practical study elements to allow the candidates sufficient knowledge and skills to work safely. The course has been designed to enable the candidates to have a deeper understanding of the following:
- Gas Safety (Installation and Use)
- Regulations (GSIUR)
- Competent practical skills
- Regulations and Standards
- Unsafe Situations
- Pipe Work
- Open Flues
- Balanced Flues
- Burner Pressure – Gas Rate and Combustion
APL portfolio – It requires work experience to be carried out under the guidance of the qualified Gas Safe registered engineers. A Gas Safe qualified service engineer acting as a work mentor will supervise the candidate to carry out a range of works on a variety of appliances following a job chart provided by the certification body. Evidence of work experience is required to be recorded with photograph and statement note.
10 weeks, 1 day per week including in-depth training and exams
Applicant must have relevant plumbing/heating industry experience or a Plumbing / Heating qualification.
